- Starting Instructions:
- Select the desired length of the animation (default is 12
hours).
- Select the interval between images (default is 2 hours).
- Press the "Build Animation" button.
The interval between images partly determines the total number of
images in the animation and hence both the downloading time and
the extent to which changes occur from one image to the next.
For example, for infrared images, an animation length of 1 day
and an interval between images of 2 hours will generate a loop
with 13 images in it, covering a 24-hour period ending with the
latest available image and with 2 hours between images. However,
for visible images, the same choices will generate a loop
starting before sunrise and ending with the latest available
image, with 2 hours between images--that is, the animation won't
truly cover 1 day but rather the most recent period of daylight
starting before sunrise. A 2 day animation of visible images
will cover the most recent two periods of daylignt, including
today's.
Missing images are listed and then automatically skipped.
- To step through animations frame-by-frame, first press the
"Stop" button ("*"), then press the "Next" button ("|>")
repeatedly to advance frames one at a time. Similarly, press the
"Prev" button ("|<") to step backward one frame at a
time.
- To restart the animation after stopping it, press the "Resume"
button (">").
- The WWWeb server (virga.sfsu.edu) receives a new GOES-West
satellite image each hour, usually within 30 minutes after the
hour. A new GOES-East image usually arrives about 25 minutes
later, usually within about 45 minutes after the hour. To
update an animation to add any newly arrived image(s) (which
also drops the oldest one from the animation), simply press the
"Build Animation" button again.
